Horses as we know them are a human creation, much like Epona herself, so I see her as having a special kind of kinship to them compared to deities who are associated with wild animals or natural phenomena that existed before the human species. Bast and Apis are also deities of domesticated species, which is why I find them especially interesting. Inspired by Botticelli’s “Man of Sorrows” and by the fact my wrists and forearms have been in faint but almost constant pain for about ten years now. I’ve drawn and commissioned pictures of Hyleren (the female reindeer on the right) a few times so she’s probably the most recognizable of the three, but very few people know who the gryphonlike creature on the left is. - [Angelica reference sheet](https://alessioscalerandi.com/selected-works/personal-furry-art/angelica-reference-sheet/): Angelica is a character I created around 2006, at the peak of my interest for animal anatomy and designing anthros with unusual anatomical features. In recent years I rather focused on subtler studies of muzzle traits and animal likeness. Angelica wasn’t a particularly sound attempt at creature design, especially in regards to the pseudowing muscles, but I’m still very fond of her concept and fascinated by bio-science fiction in general. She works for a quirky future version of the Genoa Aquarium as both an animal caretaker and brand ambassador.

Since her mother was a blue and yellow macaw and her father a red macaw, it was expected that she would have a hybrid plumage of the type humans had dubbed “Catalina”. Nobody expected her to be a bird-fox hybrid though. All parrots knew her parent had been a little too welcoming to the fox who occasionally snuck into the aviary through a narrow underground tunnel. Having grown up in a country home with a vegetable garden and plenty of aromatic herbs around, I’m compelled to have plenty of spices and herbs at hand for cooking. Especially anthro squirrels with a law degree. After the groundbreaking court case Bannertail v. American Tower Corporation, companies were ordered to reinforce branching supports of all camouflaged cell towers to ensure the safety of anthro squirrels. See, unlike their feral cousins they are instinctively drawn to perch on the tallest trees, and tree-shaped cell towers are usually much taller than the real trees surrounding them…

I find it more interesting as an art subject. The slight feeling of disorientation that arises from seeing animal ears, tails, fur patterns and muzzles merged to sensual, instinctively attractive human shapes provides a refreshing new angle on this type of art.
